How to remove a photo background offline
Most background removers are websites that need you to upload the photo. On your own computer, PlanetOS does it in one drop: drag the photo, tap Command (Mac) or Alt (Windows, Linux), and drop it on Remove background to get a transparent PNG.
How it works
- 1
Start dragging the photo.
- 2
Tap Command (Mac) or Alt (Windows, Linux).
- 3
Drop it on Remove background. Or drop it on New background… to pick white, a gradient, a blur or another photo.

Getting a clean cut-out
- Use a photo where the subject stands out from what's behind it.
- Higher resolution helps with hair and edges.
- For a passport or profile photo, choose New background… → White.
- For a product photo on a website, convert the PNG to WebP to keep the transparency in a smaller file.
On a Mac without any app
macOS can lift a subject in Photos and Preview too (touch and hold, or right-click → Copy Subject). That's quick for one picture; PlanetOS saves the file directly and can process a batch with Pro.
PlanetOS does all of this on your computer. Your files are never uploaded, and it works without an internet connection.
