File converter for Mac
PlanetOS is a menu-bar file converter for macOS. Start dragging any file in Finder or on the desktop, tap Shift, and drop it on a planet to convert it. It runs on macOS 14 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
Made for the way you already work on a Mac
There's no window to open and no file picker. You convert from wherever the file is: Finder, the desktop, a Mail attachment you're dragging out, a screenshot thumbnail. Shift shows formats, Command shows tools, and Control shows actions like Zip, AirDrop, Move and Open in Terminal.
It also converts what's on the clipboard (⌃⌥V), saves video or audio from a copied link (⌃⇧D), and can snap windows into halves and thirds.
What it converts
Images: HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, GIF and PDF. Documents: PDF to Word, Pages, Excel, PowerPoint, EPUB and text; Word, Pages, RTF, ODT, Markdown and HTML to each other. Video: MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, WebM, AVI, WMV and GIF. Audio: MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus, AIFF and WMA. Plus subtitles, slides, spreadsheets and archives.
ffmpeg, which handles formats like MKV and WebM, is built in, so there's nothing else to install.
Private by design
PlanetOS uses macOS's own frameworks for images, PDFs, video and text recognition. Files are processed on your Mac and never uploaded, and the app has no analytics.
PlanetOS does all of this on your computer. Your files are never uploaded, and it works without an internet connection.
