About AVIF

AVIF is a newer image format based on the AV1 video codec. It's even smaller than WebP at the same quality, so more and more websites use it. Support outside browsers is patchy, though, especially in office software and older photo editors.

JPG is the safe choice for sharing. PlanetOS can also go the other way and convert JPG or PNG to AVIF, which is handy for web work.

PlanetOS does all of this on your computer. Your files are never uploaded, and it works without an internet connection.
