WAV to MP3
Drag the WAV file, tap Shift and drop it on MP3. A WAV is uncompressed, so the MP3 is typically around a tenth of the size and still sounds the same to most ears.
How to convert WAV to MP3
- 1
Start dragging the WAV file, from the desktop or any folder.
- 2
While you're still holding it, tap Shift. A ring of planets opens around the file, one for each format it can become.
- 3
Drop the file on the MP3 planet. The MP3 copy appears next to the original a moment later.

Picking a bit rate
Settings → Formats sets the MP3 bit rate, from 96 to 320 kbps. 192 kbps is plenty for music, 128 kbps is fine for speech, and 320 kbps is the most an MP3 can hold.
If you need to keep every bit of the recording, choose FLAC instead: it's lossless and still about half the size of a WAV.
PlanetOS does all of this on your computer. Your files are never uploaded, and it works without an internet connection.
