MP4 to MP3
Drag the video, tap Shift and drop it on Audio as MP3. PlanetOS saves the soundtrack as an MP3 next to the video, ready for a music app, a podcast editor or a transcription service.
How to convert MP4 to MP3
- 1
Start dragging the MP4 file, from the desktop or any folder.
- 2
While you're still holding it, tap Shift. A ring of planets opens around the file, one for each format it can become.
- 3
Drop the file on the MP3 planet. The MP3 copy appears next to the original a moment later.

Other ways to keep the sound
The Tools ring also has Extract audio, which saves the sound as M4A. M4A is slightly better quality at the same size; MP3 plays on more devices.
You can set the MP3 bit rate in Settings → Formats. There's a longer walk-through in How to extract audio from a video.
PlanetOS does all of this on your computer. Your files are never uploaded, and it works without an internet connection.
