How to convert Word to PDF

  1. 1

Start dragging the Word file, from the desktop or any folder.

  2. 2

While you're still holding it, tap Shift. A ring of planets opens around the file, one for each format it can become.

  3. 3

Drop the file on the PDF planet. The PDF copy appears next to the original a moment later.

Other document formats

The same drop works for DOC, ODT (LibreOffice), RTF, Markdown, HTML and plain text files. On a Mac it also accepts Pages documents.

Going the other way? PDF to Word turns a PDF back into an editable DOCX.

PlanetOS does all of this on your computer. Your files are never uploaded, and it works without an internet connection.

Questions

Do I need Microsoft Word?

No. PlanetOS reads the document itself.

Will my layout look exactly the same?

Text, headings and basic formatting carry over. Documents with unusual fonts or complex layouts can shift slightly compared to Word's own PDF export.
