What makes PDFs big
Almost always it's images: scanned pages, photos pasted into a report, or a phone picture saved as PDF. Compressing re-saves those images at a sensible resolution and quality. Text stays sharp because it's text, not pixels.
A PDF that's only text is already small, and there's little to gain.
Private documents
Tax returns, medical letters and contracts are exactly the PDFs people need to shrink for upload forms. PlanetOS compresses them on your computer. Nobody else gets a copy.
PlanetOS does all of this on your computer. Your files are never uploaded, and it works without an internet connection.
Questions
Will the text get blurry?
No. Only images inside the PDF are recompressed.
Can I also remove personal details before sending?
Yes. Redact sensitive info blacks out emails, phone numbers, card numbers and IBANs. See Blur faces and redact info.
