How to blur a face in a video

To hide something in a video with PlanetOS, drag the video, tap Command (Mac) or Alt (Windows, Linux) and drop it on Redact…. Draw a box over the face or text on the still that opens, choose blur, pixelate or black, and PlanetOS applies it to every frame.

How it works

  1. 1

Start dragging the video and tap Command (Mac) or Alt (Windows, Linux).

  2. 2

Drop it on Redact…. A still from the middle of the video opens.

  3. 3

Draw boxes over what should disappear, pick Blur, Pixelate or Black, and save. The redacted copy is saved next to the original.

How to blur a face in a video

Works best for things that stay put

The boxes stay where you draw them for the whole video. That's ideal for screen recordings (an email address, a password field, a notification), fixed-camera footage, or a parked car's number plate.

If a person moves around, draw a larger box that covers where they go, or split the video into parts with Split… and redact each one.

Photos and PDFs are automatic

For photos, Auto-redact faces & info finds faces and personal text by itself, and PDFs have Redact sensitive info. See Blur faces and redact info.

PlanetOS does all of this on your computer. Your files are never uploaded, and it works without an internet connection.

Questions

Is the blur reversible?

No. The pixels are replaced in the new file.

Does the sound stay?

Yes. To remove it, drop the video on Mute.
