How to convert GIF to MP4

  1. 1

Start dragging the GIF file, from the desktop or any folder.

  2. 2

While you're still holding it, tap Shift. A ring of planets opens around the file, one for each format it can become.

  3. 3

Drop the file on the MP4 planet. The MP4 copy appears next to the original a moment later.

Why MP4

Instagram, TikTok and many editors don't accept GIFs. They take MP4. The video version of a GIF is often 80–90% smaller, too.

The MP4 planet only appears for GIF files, since other images have no animation to convert.

PlanetOS does all of this on your computer. Your files are never uploaded, and it works without an internet connection.

Questions

Will the MP4 loop?

The MP4 plays once; most social apps and players loop short videos on their own.

Is there sound?

No, GIFs have no audio.
